Specimen Information
The following specimens are NOT acceptable for anaerobic culture:
- Mouth/throat
- Nasal/nasopharyngeal swabs
- Stool/rectal specimens
- Vaginal/cervical swabs
- Prostatic secretions
- Gastric contents
- Urine (unless collected by suprapubic aspiration)
- Surface material from decubitis ulcers, wounds, and sinus tracts
- Sputum, bronical aspirates, bronchial wash, BAL
