Collection Information

1. Insert the tip of the swab into a nostril to obtain a specimen.
   • Nares: place into nostril only.
   • NP: resistance will be felt when the posterior nasopharynx is reached. Do not force the swab.
2. Rotate the swab and leave it in place for 10-30 seconds or until the patient coughs.
3. Repeat the process for the second nostril.
