Collection Instructions

A scotch tape preparation is collected by looping an approximately 2” piece of clear celluose tape around the end of a tongue depressor sticky side out and gently pressing against the anal folds.  This should be done first thing in the morning before bathing or going to the bathroom.  The scotch tape is then transferred sticky side down to a microscope slide labeled with the patient’s name and date of birth.

The slide can then be transferred to a slide mailer and submitted to the laboratory with a request for pinworm examination.  At least four consecutive negative slides should be observed before the patient is considered free of infection.
