Important Note

The routine causes of vaginitis/vaginosis are Trichomonas vaginalis, yeast and bacterial. In the absence of a wound (post-hysterectomy or trauma) the routine culturing of vaginal secretions is not indicated. Requests for vaginal cultures require pathology approval.
